Funnel analytics for website conversion drop-offs

Define ordered page and event funnels, check step conversion, and investigate where visitors stop progressing. Optional purchase journeys connect verified paid Checkout.

At a glance
  • Measure a defined progression rather than treating every visit as buying intent.
  • Keep a visit-based funnel separate from an optional cross-visit purchase journey.
  • Use your own counts, source context, and observation windows before deciding what to change.

Find the transition worth investigating

Choose a short sequence such as homepage → pricing → signup page, or end with a supported event your application emits after a real outcome. VisitLift’s within-visit funnels measure ordered progression through the selected steps. A signup pageview is interest; it is not proof of an account or trial.

Inspect step counts and conversion alongside acquisition and visitor journeys. The largest percentage loss may occur at a different transition from the largest absolute loss. Use those differences to choose an investigation, then validate the page and the underlying events.

Choose the right funnel window

A within-visit funnel asks whether an observed visit completes the selected sequence. A person who returns later may complete a different business journey, even though the original visit did not finish this funnel. Define that distinction before comparing rates.

Optional purchase journeys measure ordered page/event steps ending in verified paid Checkout across an explicit seven- or 30-day window. They use consented browser continuity or signed account identity, exclude daily anonymous estimates from their denominator, and show Pending and Expired cohorts separately. Test/Live evidence and payment currencies stay separate.

Verify the event before optimizing the step

First confirm an accepted tracking event. Then check each funnel step against its definition: did a page load, did someone click, did the server create an account, or did a positive Checkout payment succeed? Those are different outcomes.

A broken event, an excluded route, or missing consented continuity can create an incomplete observed funnel. The report cannot infer what happened outside its tracking coverage. Keep the uncertainty visible instead of attributing every missing event to abandonment.

Plan one change and compare a mature cohort

Use a journey to inspect what occurred around the weak transition. Check the actual signup flow on a phone. Look for mismatched expectations, unclear pricing, or an implementation question that the page could answer earlier. Record one change and an alternative explanation.

The free funnel calculator models what would happen if one step rate changed while other assumptions held fixed. Its outputs are scenarios, not revenue forecasts or guaranteed improvements. The downloadable worksheet helps you record event definitions, evidence, ownership, and review dates.

Start with traffic and funnels

Explore the labeled sample dashboard, then install tracking on your own registered website. Merchant Stripe is optional for ordinary page/event funnels and required for the verified payment stage of purchase journeys.

Plans start at $10/month. A new VisitLift trial requires a card, lasts 14 days, and renews at the selected monthly price unless canceled before the trial ends. Read the plan limits and setup guide before starting.
